Installation and browser editions

Choose the launch edition

New Tab + Toolbar replaces the browser's New Tab page and also opens from the Groovy extension icon.

Toolbar only leaves New Tab unchanged. Pin Groovy in the browser's Extensions menu and open it from its icon.

These are separate installations, not a setting you can switch inside Groovy. New Tab is not the same setting as the browser's startup pages or Home button.

For Chrome and Edge, choose either edition. For Yandex Browser, choose Toolbar. Opera users should follow the compatibility label on the downloaded package; Toolbar is the conservative choice. Firefox has its own separate Toolbar and New Tab packages. A finished Safari release is not available.

Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Yandex Browser

  1. Extract the downloaded ZIP into a permanent folder. Keep that folder after installation.
  2. Open your browser's extensions page: chrome://extensions, edge://extensions, opera://extensions, or browser://extensions in Yandex Browser.
  3. Enable Developer mode.
  4. Select Load unpacked and choose the folder containing manifest.json directly inside it. Do not select the parent folder containing several archives.
  5. Open Groovy from its icon and allow bookmark access.

Do not double-click index.html or open it through a file:// URL. The application needs extension APIs and must run as an installed extension.

Firefox

  1. Use Firefox 142 or newer for the current customer packages.
  2. Extract the ZIP and locate the included Mozilla-signed .xpi file.
  3. Open that XPI in Firefox and confirm Add. You can also use the gear menu in about:addons and select Install Add-on From File.
  4. Review the permission prompts, then open Groovy and allow bookmark access.

The signed customer XPI does not need Developer mode or temporary loading through about:debugging. Do not install an unsigned development package as a permanent customer installation.
