Enable automatic previews
Open Settings → Advanced → Preview API, review the provider and privacy explanation, and enable website previews. Choose a provider or configure a supported custom API.
Free includes the first 20 automatic previews. Other bookmarks still work and can use letter tiles or your own covers. PRO removes Groovy's preview-count limit; an external provider may still have quotas, temporary failures, or access restrictions.
Exact page or site home
Exact page requests a preview of the saved address. That can include its path and parameters, such as a video ID or saved search query. Site home limits the address to the site's home/domain instead and may show a different page from the one you bookmarked.
Once enabled, automatic previews send the configured address to the chosen screenshot provider. They do not require you to press a capture button for every tile. Preview caching reduces repeated work but is not a promise that no network request will ever occur again.
Replace a CAPTCHA preview with your visible page
- Open the bookmarked page in a normal browser tab.
- Sign in or complete the site's check yourself if needed. Wait until the wanted content is visible.
- Right-click the Groovy extension icon in the browser toolbar.
- Choose Save this page as a bookmark preview. Some builds use the older wording Save this page as a Dial preview.
- Return to Groovy and check the saved tile.
This saves the visible tab as a local cover. It does not bypass a site's access controls. Do not capture private information you do not want stored as a preview.
To return to an automatic preview, use the saved-preview removal action in the tile's three-dot menu or the available toolbar context-menu action for that page. Removing a local cover does not delete the bookmark.
Your own cover
Use a tile's edit/appearance controls to select an image, change its color, or use a short label. Your custom cover does not need the screenshot provider to access that site.
